What is NMT?

Neuromuscular massage Therapy is a general massage technique that manipulates soft tissue in order to resolve the underlying musculoskeletal issues. This technique addresses trigger points, as well as nerve compression, postural issues and poor circulation within the soft tissues. This all in one technique works to rehabilitate tight or stretched muscles and restores soft tissues through pressure and enhanced blood flow which relieves pain and discomfort.

How I can Help

I use a blend of myofascial release, trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques, active ROM, passive ROM, and very heavenly deep, slow compression strokes. I do focused work on what is causing you discomfort.

Deep Tissue Massage

I offer a truly DEEP massage. So often we need that really deep, slow pressure in our sore, stiff, dense tight feeling muscles. I will give you a massage you actually can feel. One where you say, "Oh, that hurts so good!" I push deep enough into your muscles to bring back beneficial circulation and that peaceful feeling into your body.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger points are sore, painful spots—also called knots—found in muscles. These knots are sensitive and when pressure is applied, it produces pain in a different part of your body. A trigger point massage helps work out those knots and reduce the pain associated with them.

reflexology

Reflexology

Reflexology is the application of pressure to areas on the feet (or the hands). Reflexology is generally relaxing and may help alleviate stress. Pressure applied to the foot is believed to bring relaxation and healing to the corresponding area of the body.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a type of physical therapy often used to treat myofascial pain syndrome. Myofascial release focuses on reducing pain by easing the tension and tightness in the trigger points.

Active and Passive Range of Motion

Active ROM (range of motion) is the range of motion that can be achieved when opposing muscles contract and relax, resulting in joint movement. Passive ROM is the ability of a joint to be moved through its normal arc of motion while relaxed, with motion being performed by an outside source, such as the therapist’s hand, the client’s opposite hand, or gravity.

A unique treatment experience just for you.

Neuromuscular Massage Therapy is a simple yet very effective way to help you get out of discomfort and pain without harmful side effects. The benefits of this type of massage are felt after just one-hour session. It is affordable, beneficial and it just feels so good!

I can help you with TMJ disorder, shoulder pain, neck pain, low back pain, leg and feet pain. You can always send me an email and ask questions. I love questions!

This is not just another massage. I work on the areas in which you are hurting to alleviate pain.

I offer a truly DEEP massage. So often we need that really deep, slow pressure in our sore, stiff, dense tight feeling muscles. I will give you a massage you actually can feel. One where you say, “Oh, that hurts so good!” I push deep enough into your muscles to bring back beneficial circulation and that peaceful feeling into your body.

I also use a blend of myofascial release, trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques, active ROM, passive ROM and very heavenly deep, slow compression strokes. I usually don’t do whole body massages. I do focused work on what is causing you discomfort. We work together to reduce tight, dense, unyielding muscle. This work restores capillary blood flow, reduces tension, reduces discomfort and brings hope where pain pretty much brings depression. Sometime a muscle will “forget” what it is supposed to do. Sometimes it has been contracted so long it has “muscle amnesia” a real thing! You and I work together to “remind” or “rewire” the muscle and this restoration brings back balance. Other muscles no longer have to compensate for the muscle that was “out of service”. How long does this take? I don’t know. This restorative type massage is cumulative. It often takes a few sessions to work down into layers, restoring circulation. The older the injury the longer it takes. The newer the injury, depending on the injury, perhaps less time it will take.

I've been fortunate to have been a client of Anita's for several years. Not only has she always provided the best intuitive massages, but she has also helped to diagnose medical conditions. As a result, she's helped me be proactive in healing, as well as addressing anything new that may show up. Anita has a great depth of knowledge and skillset and always knows which areas are in need of attention.

I have been struggling with chronic pain for years. I was referred to Anita for help with my chronic neck pain. I received treatment tailored to my specific needs at a very reasonable price. Anita is great, not only did she help me with my pain, she was great at explaining the mechanics of it. She is very knowledgeable about anatomy. She is always checking in during my massage to make sure her pressure is ok. She encourages feedback and makes you feel comfortable communicating with her. In addition her manner is healing in itself. She is kind, compassionate and provides a relaxing atmosphere. I look forward to my appointments with her. Anybody who gets the opportunity to work with Anita is lucky. I would 100% recommend Anita!

She is by far the best massage therapist I've ever seen. Her knowledge, intelligence, and understanding of my situation have been insightful and second to none. I've had multiple physical and massage therapists, and seen several doctors with little to no progress. Follow her direction, and you'll be relieved of pain as, you learn the correct ways to care for yourself.

Anita Smith is simply the best! Her knowledge of the muscles, and how to best work on them is top tier. Anyone who receives work from Anita is so lucky! I couldn't recommend her more.

Anita is a good soul. She has put up with me for a WHILE, and I will miss her! She is truly a healer at heart. So many times I've come to her not sure which muscle to start with, and she has taught me to listen better to "the loudest barking dog." She has helped improve my mobility, have fewer headaches, and she is just an awesome listener- always left me in noticeably better shape than when I walked in! Thank you, Anita!!!

After injuring my shoulder and ankle, Anita worked diligently to aide in my speedy recovery. I subsequently continued massages for piriformis syndrome. She has magic fingers! Highly recommend Anita!

Anita has been my massage therapist for the past two or so years. She is highly skilled and very intuitive. She adeptly adjusts our sessions to address any issues I am having at the moment. I always leave feeling far better than when I arrived and am happy to book the next several appointments. Anita is a great listener and gets to know you as a person, not simply as a client. I feel very fortunate to have found her. Highly recommended!!

Anita is very caring and professional. She was able to provide much needed relief to my deep shoulder pain. I cannot thank her enough for being a KEY part of my recovery. Anita was pivotal in identifying additional internal issues that I had so I was able to get fixed and be able to gain use of my arm. I cannot recommend her enough. I am forever thankful for her talent and magical hands!! Anita has helped me post surgery, dealing with CRPS, TMJ over the years. Here we are 4 years later in 2026. I will miss you and your talented hands!! Best to you in Spearfish, South Dakota!! They are so lucky to have you relocate there!!

Anita has been a Godsend for me. I was referred to her after experiencing a very slow recovery from shoulder surgery. Her understanding of anatomy, her gift of thoughtful listening, and her talents as a massage therapist were the perfect combination to address my needs. She is someone special I now have in my army of resources as I focus on healing and strengthening.
